The Modern Portrait

Juried Show at Scout Gallery

My submission to Scout Gallery’s juried show, “Modern Portrait” is based of a bit of street photography I did last year in Paris.

I was with a friend walking through the streets of Montmartre when we happened upon this couple sitting across the street from us. As we waited for the street lights to turn green, the couple and I acknowledged each other. Seeing my camera, they smiled as if to pose for me. Just as I pressed the shutter, she darted in to plant a kiss on his cheek. With the dim evening lighting, I captured her as a blur.

I knew right then that I would turn the picture into a sketch.

Montmartre Couple, Original sketch, Charcoal / Pastels on Paper, 18” x 24”

The piece shall be on display at Scout Gallery from July 2 through August 21. The opening reception is on Thursday, July 2, from 6-8 PM. See you there!
